Sustainability is now no longer a requirement to be kept in mind in order not to pollute and make this a better world, but has become a requirement linked to the quality of life. The report produced by Nespresso Italiana and the Swg research institute returns a clear figure in this regard: for almost 9 out of 10 Italians sustainability is no longer just about the environment, for 79% it is connected to quality of life..

A change of perspective

.

Data from the first 'Participatory Observatory on Circular Economy, Impact on Local Communities and Territories. Italian opinions, needs and future prospects' show that there is a real change in mentality, but it is still not enough. The interviewees no longer see sustainability as an abstract concept. But something very concrete, which means moving towards more responsible consumption and improving one's quality of life. It must be said, however, that 79% of Italians consider sustainability to be linked precisely to their quality of life, but meanwhile there is a high percentage of those who feel that the change in mentality has come too late, given the difficulties that exist (think of the recent floods).

Distrust on climate change

.

According to Nespresso Italiana-Swg data, 61% express distrust of the possibility of reversing climate change. Within this 61% there are those who consider the fight against climate change to be lost.

Even the concept of the circular economy is not perceived as something extremely effective or decisive. So there is a double track: sustainability now means quality of life, but on the other hand the path taken is uphill and has been taken, perhaps, too late. For example, 62% of respondents call for a step change in sustainability practices. In detail, just over 6 out of 10, therefore, ask that companies "go beyond mere declarations and undertake actions capable of generating concrete impacts to improve the quality of life in the territories where they operate". Among the priorities, it was explained, also emerges "the active protection of the environment with activities that redevelop and preserve the territory, but also the commitment to education and awareness projects for the youngest, the funding of research and support for local associations that operate in the social and solidarity spheres".

"Listening to citizens"

.

The CEO of Nespresso Italiana, Thomas Reuter, said that "sustainability as care is at the heart of the group's choices", "care that we want to generate shared value and positive impacts for people and the territory". "Today," he explained, "with the Observatory, we are announcing a change of step: we want to listen even more to Italian voices, including those of the younger generations, to understand how we can improve, not only as a company, but as partners of the communities in which we operate, with an eye to the future to create a shared path for Italy and with Italy".
