In 2023, with an investment of Euro 230 million to innovate products and processes (of which Euro 45 million dedicated to research and development), Barilla has continued its commitment to environmental sustainability. This was underlined in a note by the group, which presented its latest sustainability report on World Environment Day. The Barilla Group reports that it has improved pasta, sauces and bakery products (almost 500 products reformulated since 2010, 16 with a better nutritional profile launched in 2023), reducing CO2 equivalent emissions, energy and water consumption through sustainable supply chains and using packaging designed for recycling.
In addition, EUR 3.2 million and over 3,200 tonnes of products were donated. A way, underlines the group, to express concrete closeness to territories and communities also demonstrated by the adoption of a new policy for parental leave, which guarantees a better work-life balance to over 9,000 employees worldwide.
"Today, more than ever, when we discuss taste, nutrition, food safety, the environment, accessibility, people, communication, the future, whether it is a spaghetti, a biscuit, a bread or a sauce, we are talking about the quality of our products, the heart of our business, our way of acting and the value of our brands," say Guido, Luca and Paolo Barilla in their introductory letter to the 2023 Sustainability Report. We are aware of how long and complex the road is, but thanks to the commitment and passion of all the Barilla people, we are ready to face the challenges that await us and chart our path towards the future'.
