Tajani: more than scrapping priority is the reduction of Irpef. "On tariffs the EU negotiates, then Trump will have the last word"
For the foreign minister, 'there are several options at the moment, one that can be of a general picture without going into detail, others that are more about the details'.

The negotiations on tariffs between Europe and the US "are ongoing but, in the end, it will be US President Donald Trump who will have the last word for the American side". Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani, speaking at the Forum in Masseria 2025. "There are several options at the moment, one that can be of a general framework without going into detail, others that concern more the details, the various sectors with different possibilities. But really it is still early because then in the end, for the American side, it will be Trump who will have the final say, so there will be a negotiation that will then go to Trump and Trump will say what he thinks'.
Ukraine, Putin ceasefire difficult
"The negotiation with Russia is very complicated, Putin does not want a ceasefire but the complete stabilisation of the situation, he does not want Zelensky in government, I believe that before the end of the year it will be very difficult to reach a solution". Whether or not new sanctions are needed is another question, for the head of the Farnesina. 'If he doesn't want to make peace yes, if he doesn't want to come to milder advice'. What kind of sanctions? "Of the financial kind."
As for the other conflict front, only the two-state solution Israel-Palestine can guarantee stability in the Middle East, but the Islamist movement Hamas 'must stay out' of the future Palestinian state. "We must never give up this perspective (the two-state solution, ed.), because it is the only one that can guarantee stability in that area," the deputy prime minister urged. "We are supporters, convinced, as the Italian government, of the Egyptian project, which was then made our own by all the Arab countries, for after Gaza, after the end of the war. We believe that we must reunify the West Bank with Gaza, to create a Palestinian state, with an interregnum phase that could be under UN law, even with a military presence like that of Unifil in Lebanon. We have said that we are also willing to possibly provide troops, as we are well liked by both Israelis and Palestinians'.
More than scrapping priority is Irpef reduction
Vespa's interview at the event organised together with Comin & Partners also moves on to topics of close political relevance. And here the structural reduction of Irpef, rather than the scrapping of tax bills, is made explicit as an undeniable issue for Forza Italia. It is Tajani who says in detail that the reduction from 35% to 33% of Irpef, with enlargement of the base up to 60,000 euro is 'the priority', because 'then it is a stable choice, more so than the scrapping that is an 'occasional' choice.
Integration and citizenship in the centre-right programme
A modern centre-right must then take on the citizenship problem and this is also 'in the programme', albeit not explicitly. "We must demonstrate the strength of our identity and make these people become Italian for real, not just with a passport. Forget weakness, forget flexibility. A modern centre-right must take charge of this problem, which is not a problem that the left can solve, that is, with lax proposals, because after five years you are not formed and you have not become a true Italian. After ten years you are, because you have gone to school, not just for primary school, but you have completed compulsory education like all Italian children,' Tajani explains.
