Agreement between Tarros and Nurminen on a new Italia–Sweden intermodal corridor

An agreement between the Italian company Tarros and the Finnish firm Nurminen Logistics has paved the way for the launch of a new intermodal corridor between Sweden and Italia. The two companies have signed a commercial and operational agreement, launching the service that links the Nordic and Mediterranean markets. The door-to-door service operates in both directions and has become operational immediately. It includes rail, road and sea transport, terminal handling, customs clearance and the relevant documentation.

The corridor links Nurminen’s rail service between Örebro, in Sweden, and Parma, in Italia, with the Tarros Group’s maritime network, via the Terminal del Golfo (TdG) in La Spezia. Located 109 kilometres from the provincial capital of Liguria, Parma serves as a rail hub; from here, goods are transported by road to the TdG, before continuing by sea.

Nurminen operates its own rail service between Örebro and Parma, with two weekly departures in each direction and a journey time of 2.5–3 days. The service accommodates shipments ranging from single pallets to full trains. From La Spezia, Tarros’s maritime network connects the service to the main markets of North Africa, the eastern Mediterranean and Malta. The Italian group and La Spezia-based company Carbox provide the necessary overland transport and terminal and maritime handling along the route, offering a low-emission alternative to long-distance road transport. Transit times, the companies state, ‘depend on the origin and destination of the shipment, as well as on the available sailings from La Spezia’.
