'Italy is one of the three pillars of Stellantis in the world, together with France and the United States. And it will remain so'. These are the words of Carlos Tavares, ceo of the third largest global automotive group by revenue, in an interview in Il Sole 24 Ore on newsstands today, 19 March 2024. Between 2019 and 2022, Stellantis has invested 5 billion in our country, 2 billion of which in Turin.

But the manager also issues a warning: 'If we do not quickly adapt to the kind of competition that exists in the electric vehicle market, made extremely tough by the arrival of Chinese products in Europe but determined by the choices of the European Union, we will put our group in difficulty. And that would not be in Italy's interest'.

In this regard Tavares raises the issue of incentives: 'The subsidies necessary for Italian consumers to purchase electric cars that we produce in Italy have been announced many times, but have not yet been implemented. In this way we miss the opportunity to produce more Evs in Italy'.

And on the future of Mirafiori, Tavares says: 'I believe it will be one of the largest automotive parks in the world. We will continue to have a very intense design activity. All the most beautiful models of Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Lancia and Abarth are born in Mirafiori, not to mention Maserati. We will continue like that'.
