It must have been the rush to make changes and send in the pre-filled form. Or the monthly deadlines, first and foremost the VAT payment deadline. But in the meantime, since the morning of Friday 16 May, there have been reports of blockages and slowdowns in accessing the reserved area of the Inland Revenue website. With professionals who, complete with screenshots, are reporting the mishaps on social networks.

And the National Council of Chartered Accountants also took the field, calling for an extension of compliance. On the same line the National Council of Labour Consultants: for them a moratorium on penalties for delays is needed.

Thus, from the Inland Revenue comes the announcement of an extension of the deadline, after Sogei has resolved the problems with access to the portal. The technology partner says it is 'actively working to resolve the technical malfunction that has occurred'.

The postponement

Starting at the end, after a day of protests and warnings, a note arrived in which Sogei, the technological partner of the tax administration, announced that 'as of the morning of 16 May 2025, malfunctions are occurring in the reserved area of the Inland Revenue website'.

In light of this situation, the Agency announced that it 'will issue a measure of irregular office operation as soon as Sogei has resolved the malfunctions in the reserved area'. In effect, there will be an extension of the deadline.

The Message

Taking a step backwards, it was precisely the professionals who, already late in the morning, displayed (and saved) the message that appeared when attempting to access the reserved area: 'You are waiting to enter the reserved area of the Revenue Agency when it is your turn, you will have ten minutes to log in'. Faced with these virtual queues, many started to report the problem of the impossibility of meeting the deadlines for today's fulfilments.

The Accountants' Letter

.

Following reports from professionals, the National Council of Chartered Accountants moved, calling for a postponement. "Extend the terms of the numerous fulfilments due today due to the computer blockage of the telematic services of the Revenue Agency necessary, among other things, for the transmission of payment proxies, which occurred from around 10.30 a.m. today". This is the request made by the president of the National Council of Chartered Accountants, Elbano de Nuccio, in a letter sent to the director of the Revenue Agency, Vincenzo Carbone.

Exceptional events

And, as the treasurer and taxation delegate councillor Salvatore Regalbuto also points out, 'we have requested the intervention of the director of the Revenue Agency in order to ascertain the irregular functioning of the service with the consequent extension of the deadline as per Decree-Law No. 498 of 21 June 1961'. A provision - the one cited by the accountants - that in the event of exceptional events, which prevent the regular functioning of the offices of the financial administration, allows the deadlines for fulfilments to be shifted forward by up to ten days.

Employment consultants: moratorium needed

The delays are also emphasised by the National Council of Labour Consultants (chaired by Rosario De Luca), which has called for the moratorium of penalties for late payments due on 16 May, 'due to the continuing blockage of the Agenzia delle Entrate website'.

'Since this morning,' reads a note, 'the online services have been unavailable, causing difficulties for labour consultants' offices. The Cno immediately urged the resolution of the problems, which in the meantime have not been resolved, thus arriving at the request for a moratorium'.

The race to pre-fill

.

Just on 15 May, the Inland Revenue had reported the boom in accesses in the first two weeks from 30 April, the date from which it was possible to consult the precompiled tax return. Then, with the launch of the functionality for acceptance or changes and sending, the race for reimbursements evidently got into gear. This too may have influenced the slowdowns.
