The Christmas Bonus is changing face and widening the number of employees from 1 to over 4.5 million. It was announced by the Deputy Minister for the Economy, Maurizio Leo, with an intervention that resolves the issue of single-parent households that would not have received the 100 euro aid in their thirteenth month's salary according to the formulation of the aid that came out of the conversion of the Omnibus Decree in October.

Stop the dependent spouse requirement

.

"The number of taxpayers who will receive the 100 euro bonus at Christmas is extended. We will go from just over a million taxpayers to over four and a half million. In fact, the requirement to have a dependent spouse is eliminated, so to receive the bonus it will be enough to have at least one dependent child,' explained Deputy Minister Leo, commenting on the rule that will be included in the decree-law approved by the Council of Ministers on 13 November to reopen the terms of the two-year arrangement for VAT returns until 12 December.

Support for Christmas consumption

.

The government's hypothesis is to support lower incomes, because the objective requirement of 28,000 euro remains, especially in view of the Christmas and end-of-year festivities. This was confirmed by Deputy Minister Leo himself: 'This is a further boost for Christmas consumption, an extra help to workers and taxpayers at a particular time of the year, when family expenses tend to increase. This intervention stands alongside other concessions already implemented, such as the reduction of Irpef and the tax wedge, to support families and promote greater economic growth'.

The race against time for self-certification

.

With the change announced by the government, the race for employers to self-certify that they meet the requirements that entitle them to the bonus has begun. The timing is tight to allow disbursement in the 13th month. For civil servants, as stated in the Faq published on the NoiPa website, the request must be submitted by 12 noon on Friday 22 November. Otherwise, the bonus can only be used in the tax return to be submitted next year.
