Charon is not enough to inflame the climate of the second half of July. To make these last two and a half weeks of July even hotter, there is also the IRS, especially for taxpayers and their financial intermediaries, squeezed between 100 deadlines and the much-awaited August holiday respite. That's right: in July, the IRS presents the bill to taxpayers and professionals, with more than 100 payments due and a series of fulfilments between communications and declarations. After the payment traffic jam at the beginning of the month (32 payments), on which the real culprit is the calendar of a leap year that made the ordinary deadline for the payment of the balance and the first tax advance, set for 30 June, fall on a Sunday. As a result, all end-of-June fulfilments, at least for those who like to pay or meet their obligations on the tightrope, have slipped to 1 July.
16 July red dot for taxpayers
For taxpayers, the red dot, best known these days for holidaymakers, is set for Tuesday 16 July, the day on which no fewer than 62 deadlines will fall. VAT taxpayers will have to pay the fifth instalment of VAT for 2023 resulting from the annual declaration, with the monthly surcharge for interest. In addition, for those who have chosen to pay in instalments by making the first payment by 30 June, they will have to pay the second instalment of the taxes resulting from the annual returns of natural persons and partnerships with interest and the balance of the VAT for 2023 resulting from the annual return, with surcharge. This concerns taxpayers who did not choose to pay the 2023 balance and the 2024 first instalment of IRPEF, coupon tax, Ivie (tax on the value of real estate located abroad), Ivafe (tax on the value of financial assets held abroad) and additional taxes in a single instalment on 1 July. There are also a number of payments due for pension institutions, public bodies, and withholding agents.
Appointment at the end of the month but without agreement
Net of an intermediate stage set for 23 July, to allow taxpayers who avail themselves of the tax assistance of a Caf or an authorised professional to whom they have submitted, from 21 June to 15 July 2024, the 730/2024 form, to receive from the same intermediaries a copy of the processed declaration and the related settlement statement, it is 31 July the last tax red light before the summer break. On that day, there will be no less than 48 payment deadlines. Mostly affected will be VAT holders subject to the tax report cards . By the end of the month, they will be called to the till to pay the 2023 balance and the first 2024 tax advance without surcharge, a deadline postponed by the government by virtue of the arrival of the two-year concordat. For those who wish to have more time, the date is postponed to 30 August, but in that case the 0.4 per cent surcharge is triggered. For the concordat, there is still time until at least October, when VAT payers will be able to decide whether to accept the deal with the tax authorities and then pay the advance payment in November. But for those days Charon and the tax heat will only be a memory.
