(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Technological neutrality and biofuels as key elements of the transition to green mobility. The Lombardy Region's Councillor for Economic Development, Guido Guidesi, in view of the third General Assembly of the Alliance of Automotive Regions - Ara, which will be held on 28 and 29 November in Lombardy, has sent a letter to all 35 European regions that are members of the alliance to propose the inclusion in the final declaration of some crucial points recently approved by the G7 Transport Ministers' Meeting in Milan on 13 April. In particular, for Guidesi it is essential to include explicit references to technological neutrality and biofuels. According to the councillor, considering the heterogeneous thinking of the regions, including these references may be a further effort to support a strategic sector for the whole of Europe and one that Lombardy is committed to supporting and defending.
In his letter, Guidesi emphasises that technological neutrality is a 'key element' for the transition of the transport and automotive sector in Europe, an 'essential' principle to ensure that 'all technologies can compete fairly in the marketplace, thereby fostering innovation and the adoption of the most efficient and sustainable solutions'. Guidesi's appeal, with Lombardy set to assume the presidency of the alliance after the November event, comes after months of institutional missions by the councillor around Europe. And after the thesis of technological neutrality - and consequently also the use of biofuels alongside electricity - began to find more and more acceptance. In the letter sent to the other regions, Guidesi recalls that 'the last G7 transport meeting emphasised that technological neutrality is an essential principle to ensure that all technologies can compete fairly on the market', thus encouraging innovation and the adoption of more sustainable solutions. "The plurality of traction, understood as the integration of different types of propulsion (electric, hybrid, hydrogen, biofuels, e-fuel, etc.),' Guidesi explains, 'has been indicated as a key element to achieve the objectives of reducing emissions and environmental sustainability without negative consequences from an economic and social point of view. In this sense, 'the reaffirmation on our part of the contents expressed by the G7 Transport in our forthcoming declaration, in addition to strengthening our common commitment to a sustainable future,' the councillor concludes in the missive, 'will also offer a clear signal of European leadership and strategic vision in the global context.
