Carlos Alcaraz, number three in the Atp ranking, is the first semi-finalist of the Internazionali di Roma tennis tournament. The Spaniard took revenge from his last match in Indian Wells and secured the pass for the penultimate round on the Roman clay by beating the Englishman Jack Draper, number five in the world rankings, with a double 6-4 after an hour and 37 minutes of play.

Alcaraz will now face the winner of Musetti-Zverev, on court tonight at 8.30 pm.

Tomorrow the other two quarter-finals between Sinner and Norwegian Casper Ruud and between Poland's Hurkacz and US Tommy Paul.

It was a match with ups and downs for Alcaraz, who after having closed the first set fairly easily, in the second set he made life difficult with some free errors.

The turning point came on his serve, when he saved his serve in an endless game characterised by 20 points. After overcoming the last difficulties, Alcaraz closed easily on Draper, who was also penalised by the slowness of the surface.

It should be noted that Alcaraz, thanks to this success, will again become number two in the world ranking, securing the second seed at the next Roland Garros.

Meanwhile, there is anticipation for Sinner's return to the court tomorrow. The South Tyrolean tennis player's opponent Ruud himself commented on his upcoming match with the world number one. "I am in a good moment, but tomorrow's match will probably be the most difficult of those I have faced this year. In Turin at the Finals I lost to Jannik, but here the conditions are totally different and I hope to play a good match.

The Norwegian spoke after his success over Spaniard Jaume Munar. No one in the last five years has won more matches on clay than Ruud, a confidence boost to face Sinner in the quarters, but the Scandinavian keeps his feet on the ground aware of the value of his achievements and how difficult it is to defeat the Italian, even on 'red'. "Actually, I am not the real king of the red.... Alcaraz won Roland Garros, Monte Carlo, his titles are more important than the ones I won,' Ruud concluded.
