Tesla debuts updated versions of Model S and Model X.
The updates introduced on the two flagship cars of the Texan brand improve their appearance, but also their range and performance, plus improved cabin comfort and a top-level technology package. Deliveries are scheduled for November.
Tesla is raising the challenge to its increasingly fierce competition with the arrival of updated versions of its two flagship models. Launched in 2012 with the Model and in 2015 with the Model X, respectively, the two cars have helped to improve the perception of electric cars, which were considered problematic for various reasons at the time, including limited range, long charging times, disappointing performance and a design that was not entirely convincing. The Model X is now available in two versions, one of which is the new Model X
Change yes, but not completely revolutionise
One can argue about the timing of the renewal of the range that has characterised Tesla's choices, especially for its two flagship models, the Model S and Model X. In 13 years of presence on the market, the changes have not been revolutionary, at least in terms of styling, while under the bonnet there has been innovation. The need to contain costs in order to maintain affordable prices has prevailed. Revolutionizing, perhaps, does not mean improving, the real change is evolutionary.
Two models to suit different uses
With its skateboard-style architecture, the Model S design proved that electric vehicles can meet the needs of all drivers and adapt to any lifestyle. While the Model X with its automatic front doors and the more unusual Falcon Wing doors for the second row of seats made it easier for drivers and passengers to access the first, second and third rows. All this combined with the practicality of a high-performance SUV.
The two forerunners of unprecedented innovations
The Model S and Model X have brought innovations to mass-produced electric vehicles that have influenced the cars' functionality. Such as the touchscreen that integrates all controls, software updates via the Internet that improve functionality over time, fast charging power with the increasingly ubiquitous Supercharger systems made in Testa, as well as Driver Assistance functions with Autopilot, remote diagnostics, and even connectivity via mobile apps.
The update 13 years after the S and 9 years after the X
Thirteen years after production of the first Model S and nine years after that of the Model X, Tesla has decided to introduce improvements for both cars. The upgrades include a quieter cabin, thanks to insulating and sound-absorbing materials. New 19- and 21-inch wheels for the Model S and 20- and 22-inch wheels for the Model X. Additional features now include a new interface and front bumper camera. And the range has also been increased.
