Tesla has decided to recall almost all electric vehicles sold in the United States due to a problem with dashboard warning lights. This is the largest recall in Tesla's history, affecting up to 2.19 million cars sold between 2012 and 2024, which will receive a software update.
In December, Tesla initiated a recall of almost two million cars to update the Autopilot software.
Last month, Tesla conducted its largest recall in China, due to problems with its assisted driving functions. In 2023, Tesla sold about 1.8 million vehicles worldwide. In the premarket, Tesla's stock gave up 0.75 per cent.
Documents released Friday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration say the spyware recall will be conducted with an online software update. The recall affects Model S cars from 2012 to 2023, Model X cars from 2016 to 2023, Model 3 cars from 2017 to 2023, Model Y cars from 2019 to 2024, and the 2024 Cybertruck.
According to the agency, brake, parking and anti-lock brake lights have a smaller font size than required by federal safety standards. This can make critical safety information difficult to read, increasing the risk of accidents.
