The digital banking revolution: how account management is changing

78% of Italian account holders mainly use their mobile phones to monitor their accounts, while 72% use them for bank transfers. This is what emerged from a survey conducted through online interviews by Abi Lab, the Consortium for Research and Innovation for Banking promoted by the Italian Banking Association in collaboration with Doxa last April.

The data also shows that current account checking is carried out online by 37% of respondents, while bank transfers are handled online by 44% of respondents. According to data collected by Abi Lab, 82% of bank customers are inclined to sign up online for payment cards, 64% for insurance policies and 46% are inclined to take out a mortgage online. More than 50% of respondents, then, are inclined to evaluate non-banking services, including services related to mobility, "initiatives based on missions, quizzes and challenges to obtain refunds or discounts", and services for tourism and leisure.

On the subject of security, 87% of respondents express confidence in their banking application, which they perceive as "the most reliable" of those on their mobile phones. Only 23% feel safer operating from a PC, while for 58% there is no difference between the devices used. A theme, the latter, which, according to Director General Marco Elio Rottigni, "guides the commitment of Abi and the entire sector and is embodied in the work of the Abi Digital Security Committee", which he chairs together with Roberto Parazzini, Head of Italy and Western Europe at Deutsche Bank.

The level of satisfaction with digital banking services remains high, with particular appreciation for the speed and simplicity of transactions.
