Del Vecchio Jr's double move: 30% of Giornale and negotiates QN majority
The deal is part of a broader Del Vecchio media project to create a national publishing pole
LMDV Capital, family of Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio, has signed an agreement for the acquisition of 30% of Il Giornale, the historic national newspaper of the Angelucci family. The entry of LMDV Capital takes place as a long-term investor, alongside the reference shareholder, with the aim of strengthening the newspaper's industrial project and supporting its digital evolution, while preserving its identity, autonomy and editorial line.
Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio also aims to take over the majority of the QN group controlled by the Monti Riffeser family. This is reported in financial circles. In the press release announcing the acquisition of a stake in Il Giornale, Lmdv, the family office of Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio announced that it had "recently signed an exclusive agreement for the acquisition of a majority stake in an Italian publishing group active in national and local newspapers and digital platforms". The QN group includes the daily newspapers Il Giorno, La Nazione and Il Resto del Carlino.
'This investment, alongside the Angelucci family, represents a concrete step along the path I have outlined in recent months: strengthening Italian publishing with Italian, patient and industrial capital,' says Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio, founder and shareholder of LMDV Capital. We cannot accept that the future of information should be decided solely by algorithms or platforms that do not invest in journalistic work. The objective of those who have the opportunity to invest today is exactly the opposite: to put resources and skills at the service of free editorial offices, capable of speaking to the new generations without sacrificing quality'.
Del Vecchio had tried to insert himself in the sale of Gedi by offering 140 million euros for the Exor-controlled group. But John Elkann has renewed the exclusivity to deal only with the Greeks of Antenna Group until at least February 2026.
