The EU suspends meat imports from Brazil: health guarantees are lacking

The European Union will suspend imports of Brazilian meat and other animal products from Thursday onwards, pending assurances from Brazil that it complies with European animal health standards. The European Commission announced this in a statement, explaining that Brazil “will no longer be authorised to export food-producing animals and products of animal origin intended for human consumption to the EU. This will affect products such as beef, poultry, eggs, honey and casings. Brazil was added to an EU list of countries that do not comply with the rules on the use of antibiotics in animals last May.
