Chiharu Shiota's evanescent cloud at Mudec
The installation 'The Moment the Snow Melts' will be on display until 28 June
In the run-up to the Winter Olympics, Mudec offers the unprecedented and poignant monumental installation The Moment the Snow Melts. The Moment the Snow Melts by artist Chiharu Shiota, whose immersive installations enchant viewers around the world. Climate change, the passing of time, memory, absence. Everything flows on the suspended threads like a final, emotionally meditative echo.
And as time flees, memory fades and melts like snow.
Dressed in black, petite and polite as the Japanese always know how to be, we meet the artist in the agora of the Museo delle Culture in Milan.
What about this museum inspired you for this installation?
"The first time I came to this place called Agora and inside the Mudec, I liked the natural light and the height of the ceiling and so, compared to the rest of the museum, I chose to do my installation here and used the full twelve metres of the height for my work".
