The Italian Embassy in Asmara, in collaboration with Office IV of the Directorate General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and with the Dante Alighieri Society, has inaugurated the experimental phase of Italian language courses accessible free of charge with the involvement of the teaching staff already employed at the IISO - Omnicomprehensive Italian State Institute in Asmara.
With this initiative, at the "Casa degli Italiani" in Asmara it will once again be possible to study the Italian language and culture after a suspension of several years. The aim is to expand the number of courses and offer vocational training activities in various fields, including opportunities to pursue higher education in Italy or to cultivate an interest in our art and culture.
Italian Ambassador Marco Mancini emphasised the "soft diplomacy" value of the Italian language during the ribbon-cutting ceremony, with the participation of Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh and Emilio Luzi for the Dante Alighieri Society. Among the audience were representatives of the diplomatic corps and the Italian community in Asmara.
The presence of numerous government representatives, including the Minister of Information Yemane Gebremeskel, the Minister of Agriculture Arefaine Berhe and Petros Hailemariam, Acting Minister of Education, confirms the great interest that the Italian language continues to arouse in Eritrea.
