Three Italian dates - in Ravenna, Florence, Bari - to hear a formation such as the Vienna Philharmonic, conductor Muti, with a programme presenting two high points of the glorious Viennese season, with works by Mozart and Schubert. The important Open Rehearsals charity project continues at La Scala; Cuban jazz instead at the Blue Note. Jazz, however, explodes at the New Conversations Festival in Vicenza, with concerts throughout the city. from afternoon to late at night.

Ravenna

On the 11th at the Pala De André Riccardo Muti with the Vienna Philharmonic opens the 35th Ravenna Festival, which continues until 9 July with music, drama, dance; on the programme two Symphonies, by Mozart and Schubert. The other dates are in Florence at the Teatro del Maggio on the 12th and at the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari on the 13th.

Vicenza

From 13 to 19 May the 28th edition of Vicenza Jazz, with dozens and dozens of concerts in a non-stop programme from the afternoon until late at night (and on one occasion until dawn). The concerts will not be limited to the theatres, spreading throughout the city, from clubs to ancient palazzos, churches, museums, cinemas, bookshops, and the streets and squares of the historic centre. The title of the festival, 'A dream along eighty-eight keys', identifies the most relevant of the many listening paths. Sitting in front of the keyboard will be Uri Caine, Omar Sosa, Craig Taborn, Marialy Pacheco, Antonio Faraò, Dado Moroni, Danny Grissett, Margherita Fava, Francesca Tandoi, and numerous others.

Milan

On the 12th at La Scala, an open rehearsal of the Philharmonic Orchestra, with its conductor Riccardo Chailly and pianist Alexander Malofeev. On the programme will be music by Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev. As always for the Open Rehearsals cycle, the evening's proceeds will be donated to the Associazione Mercurio's 'La Palestra delle Emozioni' project, created in 2022 to tackle the alarming increase in widespread psycho-emotional distress among pre-adolescents and adolescents. The cycle is focused this year on combating educational poverty. The project has involved 49 organisations since 2010, organising 62 charity evenings attended by more than 118,000 spectators, raising a total of more than €1,500,000 for social welfare.On the 8th at the Blue Note the clarinet and sax of Paquito D'Rivera, a living legend of Cuban music, capable of expressing himself in the purest boppish jazz language as well as in the most fiery Latin idiom.
