"Now that the nuclear arsenal created by Iran has been completely destroyed, it is very important to me that all Middle Eastern countries adhere to theAbraham Agreements. This will ensure peace in the Middle East." This was stated by Donald Trump on his social Truth on 7 August 2025.

Already three months ago, on 6 May to be precise, the US president's envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, said that "very soon" new countries would join the Abrahamic Accords and that normalisation talks with Israel would "produce significant progress within the next year".

Trump and the Nobel Prize for Abrahamic Accords

On 6 May 2025, US President Donald Trump declared that he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize - and on 8 July 2025, Netanyahu said the same - precisely because of the Abraham Agreements, the historic treaties normalising relations between Israel and various Arab countries.

During a meeting with the press in the Oval Office, Trump had stated - and today 7 August 2025 he returns to the charge - that the initiative is continuing to expand, with many more countries ready to join. "We will add them very quickly," he assured, emphasising the importance of these developments for global peace.

The Abraham Agreement in 2020 between Israel, the US and Eau

The Abraham Agreement is a joint declaration between Israel, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United States, reached on 13 August 2020. Subsequently, the term was also extended to the Bahrain-Israel normalisation agreement.

The antefact0

On 28 January 2020 Trump drew up a peace proposal between Israelis and Palestinians in a ceremony at the White House. It envisaged the application of Israeli law, or annexation, to about 30% of the West Bank. This plan was not accepted by the Palestinians, who criticised both the strict conditions of the agreement and the acceptance of Israeli control over such a large portion of their territory.

The Meaning of the Abrahamic Agreements

The Abraham Agreements marked the first normalisation of relations between an Arab country and Israel since those with Egypt in 1979 and with Jordan in 1994.

The agreement with theUnited Arab Emirates, dated 15 September 2020,  was entitled 'Abraham's Peace Accord: Treaty of Peace, Diplomatic Relations and Full Normalisation between the United Arab Emirates and the State of Israel'.

The agreement betweenBahrain and Israel, also dated 15 September 2020, is in turn entitled 'Abrahamic Agreements: Declaration of Peace, Cooperation and Constructive Diplomatic and Friendly Relations'.

The agreements are named after the patriarch Abraham, considered a prophet by both religions of Judaism and Islam, and traditionally regarded as a shared patriarch of the Jewish and Arab peoples (through Isaac and Ishmael).
