Here are the most notable models showcased at the show: among the trends that emerged were more technology even in the 125cc class, electric scooters and adventure bikes from Yamaha, maxi GTs and crossovers designed to compete with the Honda X-Adv, and even more dynamic mid-range models for city traffic
Key points
Suzuki: the city goes digital
Suzuki has introduced targeted updates to its 125cc range, replacing traditional instrument clusters with new displays and connectivity features. The Suzuki Burgman Street 125, a 124cc air-cooled single-cylinder model, has been updated to deliver better performance at low and medium revs. Features: 4.2-inch LCD display with smartphone connectivity, keyless ignition, 26-litre under-seat storage, USB socket and full LED lighting.
Following last year’s preview, the Suzuki e-Address is one of Suzuki’s city-focused models: an electric scooter equivalent to a 125cc model, with a range of 80 km, it is in fact designed primarily for urban use.
Yamaha: adventure scooters and electric models
Yamaha presents the new RW family of adventure scooters and introduces two models to the 125cc-equivalent electric segment: the Nmax E and Xenter E. The Yamaha RW700 is the first adventure scooter in Yamaha’s mid-range line-up to feature the CP2 engine and the Y-AMT automated manual transmission, which can be operated in either automatic or manual mode via handlebar controls: it is the first Yamaha scooter to feature a genuine gear-shifting system.
The Yamaha RW350 brings the adventure concept to the mid-capacity class, with a 330 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine. It features the new Yamaha Dynamic Ride system, with the engine fixed to the frame and only the CVT transmission moving; 16- and 14-inch wheels with knobbly tyres; 185 mm ground clearance; a 5-inch display; cruise control; and a Smart Key.
The Yamaha NMAX E, on the other hand, is the electric version of the sports scooter from the Max range, offering 125 cc performance and suitable for an A1 licence. It has a claimed range of 104 km in the WMTC 1 cycle and 33.3 Nm of torque; the built-in charger allows the battery to be charged from 0 to 100 per cent in 5½ hours. It features 13-inch wheels, a new chassis with a motorbike-style swingarm, a 5-inch display, three riding modes and reverse gear. Colours: Avio Blue and Platinum Silver.
