The Pope has extended Delpini’s term as Archbishop of Milan by one year

Pope Leo XIV has extended the term of office of the Archbishop of Milan, Monsignor Mario Delpini, by one year. The news was published on the website of the Archdiocese of Milan. Delpini, who turned 75 on 29 July, had tendered his resignation to the Pope, as is required of all bishops worldwide. In recent days, a letter from the Apostolic Nuncio to Italia, Edgar Peña Parra, informed the archbishop that Pope Leo XIV had “accepted this resignation with the nunc pro tunc clause, extending his tenure for one year”. After July 2027, Monsignor Delpini will remain in office until the appointment of his successor is published.
