The date for the sale of Udinese to a US fund has reportedly been set for next Friday, 6 June, in Luxembourg. To acquire the Udinese club in the hands of the Pozzo family for 39 years - according to some specialised media, reported by the Friulian press - would be 'Guggenheim partners', a private company that manages over 349 billion dollars of assets in various sectors.

The company's CEO is Mark Walter, who is already very present in the world of sports: he owns the Los Angeles dodgers (Mlb) baseball team and has shares in the Los Angeles lakers (Nba) and the holding company that owns the Chelsea (Premier league).

According to rumours, the signing of the preliminary agreement took place on 15 April, for a sum of around 180 million euros. At the time of the closing it will be known whether the Pozzo family will remain in Udinese with a minority share.

Rai reports spoke of a change of ownership of the club

On 24 May, the latest rumour came out that Udinese was the focus of interest of funds and investors from the world of American sports business.

On the afternoon of 24 May, news had spread, anticipated by Tgr Rai Fvg, of the sale of the Friulian club by the Pozzo family for an amount of around EUR 150 million to a fund based in the United States.

On 24 May last, however, Il Sole 24 Ore verified in circles close to the Friulian club that no sale of shares had been formalised at the time. The club's top management themselves, questioned by Ansa, did not wish to comment on the news.

The Pozzo family's club, one of the jewels of Italian football, has been in Serie A for more than 30 years, with its own stadium, the Bluenergy Stadium, a squad of young players with high growth potential, and a solid economic-financial situation. Elements that make it particularly attractive to foreign investors.

It is not the first time that rumours have leaked out about such interests and about negotiations initiated to take over the club or a substantial share of it. The Pozzo family also owns Watford, which currently plays in the Championship, the second division of the English league.

As of 30 June 2024, Udinese closed the budget with a turnover of 120 million euro, a loss of 11 million, but with a net asset value of 112 million, a positive EBITDA of 50 million (13 net of capital gains) and a real market value of the squad of around 140 million.
