CASTIGLIONCELLO. Scientist Giorgio Parisi has been awarded the Giovanni Spadolini Political Culture Prize. The award ceremony, now in its 20th edition, was held in Castiglioncello, in the amphitheatre of the Castello Pasquini park. Last year's winner was director Pupi Avati. Promoted by the Municipality of Rosignano Marittimo in collaboration with the Fondazione Spadolini Nuova Antologia, this year's award coincides with the centenary of the birth of the Florentine statesman, who spent his holiday periods, throughout his entire life, in Castiglioncello, in the pearl of the Etruscan Riviera, a land dear to the Macchiaioli painters and to his father Guido, an artist of national fame.

"Awarding the prize to Giorgio Parisi, a distinguished physicist of international prestige, Nobel Prize winner in 2021, means," says Cosimo Ceccuti, president of the Spadolini Foundation, "paying homage to the highest figure that in the centenary of Giovanni Spadolini's birth could exalt his infinite love for culture, the red thread of his commitment as a scholar, journalist and man of institutions".
Parisi, even the scientist must contribute to the progress of the community
'It is a great pleasure,' says Giorgio Parisi, 'to receive the Spadolini Prize for Political Culture. I belong to a generation that has always considered social commitment and politics to be essential elements in one's life. Even the scientist with his work and knowledge must contribute to the progress of the community'. The award to Professor Parisi, a shining example of the Italy of reason - as the citation reads - was presented by the mayor of Rosignano Marittimo, Claudio Marabotti.
