After The Secrets of Leadership, Il Sole 24 Ore presents another seminal text by Roberto Re, a highly successful coach and trainer, dedicated to our relationships with others, thus extending the discourse to a wider audience and not only to those who have to lead a team.

Everyone has relationships with others, so Re's book, also published by Gribaudo, is dedicated to anyone who wants to have additional tools to interact in the best possible way, based on the great assumption of Greek philosophy that human beings are social beings by nature.

The book, like its predecessor, is practical and easy to read, even though it is dedicated to making readers reflect on the fundamentals of human relationships and in particular, as the subtitle states, on the very noble art of understanding oneself and others.

First of all, why are relationships so crucial? Because they determine our lives both personally and professionally and because the quality of our lives ultimately depends on the quality of our relationships. And on what does the quality of our relationships depend? According to Re, essentially on our ability to understand others. And, before that, to understand ourselves.

And so the book The Secrets of Relationships, aims to provide tools, both theoretical and practical, that can help the reader analyse his or her daily behaviour at work, in the family or in any relevant area of life to identify strengths and critical aspects that can be changed.

The Transactional Analysis method

.

In this text, the author uses the Transactional Analysis model, a psychological theory that, through the analysis of personality, aims to provide the tools to explain how we and others function and behave.

Then, in the second part of the book, the importance of the environment is described, both the physical one, consisting of the spaces and objects that surround us, and the personal one, consisting of all the people around us who, for one reason or another, relate to us. For the author, the environment thus understood has an enormous influence on our behaviour and well-being, both positive and negative.

Also in this book, and this will be the third part of the text, we talk about relationships at work, with bosses, colleagues or co-workers. What has already been written by King in the book The Secrets of Leadership (which dealt precisely with this) applies here, while in the fourth and final part the author deals with the fundamental man-woman relationship and the relationship with money.

While deep listening and communication should be the basis of a couple relationship, a relationship where one of the two decides and leads or where one is emotionally dependent on the other risks becoming a prison for both and in the long run makes one feel weaker. So, argues Re, the formula for a successful couple relationship is one of interdependence, where each element can grow in the couple but only if it is not dependent on the other.

The relationship with money

.

The concluding part of the work is dedicated to the relationship with money with the inviting promise of 'developing the right mindset, the one that unites those who have become millionaires by their own merit and not by fate'. "I am sure that it is possible to improve oneself and one's lifestyle, that it is possible to find a permanent solution to one's financial problems, a solution that is accessible to everyone, even to those who start from zero or below zero," argues King. Money, says the author (and many with him) is neither bad nor good, but it can 'amplify yourself and your emotions'. Along with this, the essential concept of 'financial freedom' is explored, which for many scholars is one of the causes of true human happiness.

The last lesson discussed in the book has the title of a maxim: 'The more you give, the more you get', because in order to live relationships authentically and develop leadership, one must learn to give others what they need in order to evolve and develop their capabilities.

In conclusion, this text, together with the one already presented, forms a pair of valuable tools for progressing and improving one's interpersonal qualities and skills. An effective guide from which to draw definite inspiration. (M. Do.)
