"From 1865 to the present day, this newspaper has been through so many events in our history: the start of the revolution in the 1900s, two world wars, through the expectation of the 2000s and, finally, the Covid, when, moreover, despite the difficulties we transformed the format from the pink sheet to the current tabloid.

This was how the editor-in-chief of Sole 24 Ore, Fabio Tamburini, wanted to begin the evening of celebrations to mark the newspaper's 160th anniversary. An event accompanied by Uto Ughi's sound journey at the Auditorium Santa Chiara in Trento.

'It is our rule,' continued Tamburini, 'to privilege the rigour of information. We are not a generalist but an economic information newspaper, and now we have managed to become the most multimedia Italian publishing group thanks to digital, Radio 24, the Radiocor agency, and a fast-growing video section'.

The CEO of the 24 Ore Group, Federico Silvestri, emphasised that 'we are working to ensure that for the next 160 years, Il Sole 24 Ore will continue to be the leader in national information'.

Silvestri went on to list other initiatives and events that will mark the anniversary during 2025. "With the idea of getting readers more involved, an open day will be organised in the editorial office where journalists will talk about the paper's invoice step by step". In addition, a series of group reading events are being planned 'given the increasing trend of this way of reading'.

"Then we are thinking of a national meeting to take stock of the health of the publishing industry also with the other market players.

We will open the Museum of Cultures in Milan, where each editorial office of the newspaper,' Silvestri continued, 'will be able to show their work and also meet readers here.

Finally, a concert open to all will be organised with the Filarmonica della Scala in Milan's Piazza Duomo.

But in addition to all this, it was the evening of the opinion reader award ceremony. Readers who brought their testimonies on their relationship with Il Sole 24 Ore written in just 160 characters.

The eight chosen ones will be the protagonists of a communication campaign and were selected from among all the hundreds of applications received at the call to action launched in February and portrayed in a series of author's shots, becoming an active part of the beating heart of the narrative.

On stage, opinion readers shared their thoughts. Here are their voices.

Among the chosen phrases was that of the entrepreneur Ludovica Corponi who wrote: 'A professor taught me to love stories and the world through this newspaper. I always find it between the pages'.

Then it was the turn of lawyer Roberta Errico: 'As a student, you oriented me. Then the world came, you offered me practical tools and answers. Now, it is time to give back value.

Ad maiora." Anna Gallucci, consultant, wrote: "Since I was a little girl, with the pink newspaper in my hands, I dreamed of changing the world. Today the world changes, but I remain: every Sunday, with the Sun to enlighten me."

Then Mariantonietta Intonti, a university lecturer: "Old rose-coloured, Sole 24 Ore fascinates me almost like a novel. And I tell it to my students for their growth, as insight and reflection."

Manager Lorenzo Montrucchio: 'Il Sole reminds me of my dad, the only one who read it in his small village where having primary school was a success. Even today it is still Dad's reliable voice."

Massimiliano Silla, financial consultant: '16 September 2008: standing in front of the usual newsstand, I was astonished to read an indelible front page. Il Sole 24 Ore was reporting on the great financial crisis."

To conclude with Davide Valentini: "I am a university student of economics and for me, Il Sole 24 Ore is a vital source of teaching, updating and discussion on economics and politics."

The eighth opinion reader, Andrea Arrigo Panato, was unable to attend the awards evening.
