Since its inception in 2007, our Group has launched an articulated programme of collaboration with some of the most prestigious Italian and foreign academic institutions, with the aim of contributing to the development of research, the dissemination of knowledge and the support of deserving young people. This bond stems from a deep conviction: higher education is the foundation on which, in the medium to long term, a fairer, sustainable and inclusive society rests because it allows those who will be tomorrow's leaders to grow, intellectually and professionally.

For the past eight years, since 2017, the partnership with Oxford University, one of the world's best forges of talent, has been developing by supporting the Saïd Business School's research on crucial topics for the future of economics and finance, such as the concept of purpose, which investigates the deep purpose of companies beyond profit and is redefining the way companies and institutions interpret their role, a key to rethinking business models geared towards the common good.

Today, the Enacting Purpose Initiative publishes a new in-depth report on the concept of purpose in European countries. The paper highlights how European capitalism differs in many respects from Anglo-American capitalism. On our continent, purpose represents a framework for decision-making and a system of values that recognises that companies play a central role in the societies in which they operate, offering valuable tools for promoting a new performance culture.

Under the impetus of Carlo Messina, who is its inspirer, and with the full support of the Intesa Sanpaolo Board, the Group is effectively developing the most comprehensive and articulated programme of charitable initiatives by a private entity in Europe, an endeavour on which a thousand people in the bank are working with resources amounting to one and a half billion euro.

Many of these initiatives are aimed at young people precisely to help reactivate that social lift that is a source of motivation for so many intelligent male and female students as they enter adult life with the hope of improving their own situation compared to that of their parents. And which is a proven growth factor for a modern and dynamic country.

The collaboration with Oxford has many facets. In addition to research on purpose, a chair dedicated to ethics in business and finance, the Intesa Sanpaolo Prize in Economics and Management, MBA scholarships for female students, participation in scientific activities and publications, conferences, seminars, case studies and teaching collaborations.

In autumn 2024, our contribution was officially recognised with the engraving of our bank's name on Clarendon Arch, the seventeenth-century monument leading to the historic Bodleian Library, next to the names of key benefactors including Henry VIII, Elizabeth I and Elizabeth II.

The report is not limited to university institutions but embraces other aspects of life in Oxford. Among the most significant is the refurbishment of the Etruscan and Roman Galleries of the famous Ashmolean Museum where the extraordinary collections of artefacts from ancient Rome and Etruria are displayed, an opportunity to promote knowledge of Italy's cultural heritage and spread the history of our country. The refurbishment of the rooms was a natural follow-up to the exhibition 'Last Supper in Pompeii' that was realised in 2019 with our support. The exhibition, with its fascinating account of the daily life of Pompeii's inhabitants before the eruption of Vesuvius, was the most visited exhibition in the museum's history and was the impetus for this new permanent exhibition that opened a few weeks ago.

We support Worcester College and Green Templeton College and are part of academic circles of excellence such as the Chancellor's Court of Benefactors, the Dean's Circle of Saïd Business School and the Principal's Circle of Green Templeton College. We participate in the life of the Italian community through the Oxford University Italian Society.

Intesa Sanpaolo will continue to believe in the value of culture and education as powerful levers of growth for people and countries. Intesa Sanpaolo managers, acting as lecturers, share their experiences in the classroom to make them available to students and academics at Oxford University, as well as Italian and other foreign universities. From the fruitful exchanges, they draw ideas, knowledge and opportunities for the Group. This is why, for Intesa Sanpaolo, dialogue with universities is always alive, open, constructive.
