Since its inception in 2007, our Group has launched an articulated programme of collaboration with some of the most prestigious Italian and foreign academic institutions, with the aim of contributing to the development of research, the dissemination of knowledge and the support of deserving young people. This bond stems from a deep conviction: higher education is the foundation on which, in the medium to long term, a fairer, sustainable and inclusive society rests because it allows those who will be tomorrow's leaders to grow, intellectually and professionally.
For the past eight years, since 2017, the partnership with Oxford University, one of the world's best forges of talent, has been developing by supporting the Saïd Business School's research on crucial topics for the future of economics and finance, such as the concept of purpose, which investigates the deep purpose of companies beyond profit and is redefining the way companies and institutions interpret their role, a key to rethinking business models geared towards the common good.
Today, the Enacting Purpose Initiative publishes a new in-depth report on the concept of purpose in European countries. The paper highlights how European capitalism differs in many respects from Anglo-American capitalism. On our continent, purpose represents a framework for decision-making and a system of values that recognises that companies play a central role in the societies in which they operate, offering valuable tools for promoting a new performance culture.
Under the impetus of Carlo Messina, who is its inspirer, and with the full support of the Intesa Sanpaolo Board, the Group is effectively developing the most comprehensive and articulated programme of charitable initiatives by a private entity in Europe, an endeavour on which a thousand people in the bank are working with resources amounting to one and a half billion euro.
Many of these initiatives are aimed at young people precisely to help reactivate that social lift that is a source of motivation for so many intelligent male and female students as they enter adult life with the hope of improving their own situation compared to that of their parents. And which is a proven growth factor for a modern and dynamic country.
