The University of Florence welcomes 15 Palestinian students and researchers

The University of Florence has published the ranking lists for the reception and support project that will enable 15 Palestinian students and researchers to continue their academic studies in Florence. Ten students will be able to enrol on a degree programme and five researchers will be able to carry out their research at the University of Florence. The more than 3,000 applications received demonstrate the strong demand for study and research opportunities among young people whose education has been interrupted by the war.

For the University of Florence, “welcoming students is a concrete commitment: providing beneficiaries not only with the opportunity to attend courses and carry out research, but also with the necessary conditions to build and continue their journey in the city”. In addition to scholarships, the project provides for board and lodging, Italian language courses, psychological support, healthcare cover, tutoring and a local transport pass. The publication of the ranking lists marks the first major milestone in a process that will continue with the establishment of a university and humanitarian corridor to enable the 15 beneficiaries to travel to Florence.
The initiative stems from a collaboration between the University of Florence, the Il Cuore si scioglie Foundation, Unicoop Firenze, the Region of Tuscany, the Islamic Community of Florence and Tuscany, the La Pira International Students’ Centre and the John Paul II Foundation.
