The Vatican’s official cars will be Toyotas and Lexuses
The Governorate of Vatican City State has signed an agreement with Kinto, the Toyota Group’s mobility company, to expand its electrified fleet with electric cars and commercial vehicles
The agreement signed between the Governorate of Vatican City State and Kinto, the Toyota Group’s mobility company, forms part of the 2030 Ecological Conversion Plan, the programme through which the Vatican aims to gradually replace its vehicle fleet by the end of the decade. The first Toyota and Lexus vehicles, including electric commercial vehicles, were handed over on 30 September during a ceremony at the Vatican.
Two projects with a single environmental objective
The agreement is based on two levels. The first concerns the Vatican City State’s official fleet, which aims to reduce its carbon footprint through the use of zero- or low-emission vehicles. The second project, on the other hand, involves the Governorate’s staff, who are offered a selection of both Toyota and Lexus models under leasing schemes designed for corporate fleets and, naturally, on favourable terms.
The multi-technology range from Toyota and Lexus
The two projects form part of the environmental strategy promoted by the Governorate of Vatican City State, which draws on the principles of the encyclical *Laudato Si’* and the apostolic exhortation *Laudate Deum*. Kinto will provide solutions covering various levels of electrification. Full Hybrid models, for example, can operate in electric mode 50 per cent of the time in urban areas, without the need for external recharging.
