The Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) sector is in full effervescence, thanks to innovative solutions that optimise work processes and open up new creative horizons. From the well-established products of the tech giants to the numerous start-ups determined to conquer shares of an already very rich market - estimated at around $540 billion, with expectations of growth to $1,270 billion by 2028.
Navigating this ever-expanding ecosystem is increasingly complex. The overabundance of offers, often with similar characteristics, makes it difficult to distinguish the truly innovative solutions. For clarity, Andreessen Horowitz, one of the most influential venture capitalists globally, has compiled the third edition of the 'Top 100 GenAI Consumer Apps' on the A16z information portal, providing a detailed overview of current trends and consumer preferences in the GenAI market.
ChatGPT on the throne, but competitors are increasingly insidious
The ranking is divided into two categories, both based on unique monthly visits: 'AI web products' for desktop products and 'Ai Mobile Apps' for apps on mobile devices. Compared to the previous report in March, the new ranking sees as many as 30 per cent of unpublished Ai products, demonstrating the dynamism of this emerging market.
For the third time in a row, ChatGPT confirmed itself as the number one product on both web and mobile, by a wide margin. However, competition in the field of consumer AI assistants is becoming increasingly fierce. After Character AI, in third place is Perplexity, an AI search engine that aspires to rival Google, slightly surpassing ChatGPT in average visit duration (over seven minutes, according to Similarweb). Perplexity's popularity is also growing on mobile, with its entry in the top 50. Then there is Anthropic's Claude, a direct competitor to ChatGPT, which rises to fourth place from tenth in March.
Entertainment: image, video and text generations the most used modes
.The ranking reveals some notable trends in emerging categories, with creative text, image, video and music generation tools continuing to attract more and more users. Of the companies on the web list, 52% focus on content generation or editing, in all modes. Of the 12 new entries, 58 per cent relate precisely to these tools. Among the best known are Luma (ranked 14th) and Viggle (21st) for video generation. Others include SeaArt (29th), an artistic image generator, while Udio (33rd), produces music on the basis of simple textual instructions. The music generator Suno made the biggest leap from 36th to 5th place in the last six months.
