Three years of Bat in Trieste: the associated economic impact is worth 275 million
Mib Trieste School of Management: every euro of output generates up to 5.5 euros within the economy. Nearly 400 direct employees in the four years since it was established
The “A Better Tomorrow Innovation Hub”, which Bat Italia opened in Trieste in June 2023, generated a total output of 275.6 million euros within the national economy in 2025. This is the key finding from the third edition of the study carried out by the Mib Trieste School of Management, presented on 25 June at the headquarters of the Venezia Giulia Chamber of Commerce to mark the facility’s third anniversary.
Odds of 5.5 euros
The estimated output multiplier is 5.5 euros for every euro of the company’s direct output. The direct effect is quantified at 50 million euros, the indirect effect – relating to the supply chain – at 159 million, whilst the associated economic impact, which incorporates the incomes of households involved throughout the supply chain, brings the total to 275.6 million.
Added value of 29.8 million
In terms of added value, the study estimates a total of 29.8 million euros, of which over 90 per cent is concentrated in Friuli Venezia Giulia and around 10 per cent is spread across the rest of the country. This pattern confirms that the impact is predominantly felt in the region where the business is based, although there are also knock-on effects along highly specialised national supply chains.
Around 400 employees
In terms of employment, the hub has almost reached 400 direct employees just over four years after it was established, with growth that the chairman of Bat Trieste, Andrea Di Paolo, describes as “steady” and focused on the local supply chain. Compared with previous editions, the third edition of the study introduces a qualitative assessment of the “Bat Model”, based on interviews with suppliers, institutions and parties involved in sponsorship activities. The responses all point to one thing: the company is perceived as a partner capable of generating value beyond the commercial sphere, with benefits in terms of recruitment, investment and the transfer of skills.
Simone Masè, Chairman and Chief Executive of Bat Italia, described the results as confirmation of a “measurable and scalable” growth model that combines a strong local presence with an international outlook. Antonio Paoletti, Chairman of the Venezia Giulia Chamber of Commerce, highlighted the region’s ability to attract and support manufacturing facilities thanks to a high value-added per unit ratio.
