Six of the seven board members of TikTok in the US will be American. This was announced by White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt in an interview with Fox News, confirming that the deal under discussion with Beijing envisages US-dominated governance for the popular video app.

"TikTok will be majority-owned by Americans in the United States. The board will have seven members, six of whom will be Americans,' said Leavitt, adding that data and privacy management 'will be entrusted to one of the best US technology companies, Oracle', while 'even the algorithm will be controlled by the US'.

According to the spokeswoman, these elements 'are already the subject of an understanding' and only the finalisation is missing: 'I believe it will happen in the next few days'.

On Friday, President Donald Trump, after a phone call with Xi Jinping, had spoken of a signing 'now reduced to a formality'.
