Telecoms: Iliad ‘dismayed’ by AGCOM’s stance on frequencies, treated as virtual operators

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - According to sources close to Iliad, as reported by Radiocor, there is consternation over AGCOM’s stance on mobile frequencies due to expire in 2029, as announced today. “The Authority’s stance,” explain sources close to the company led by Benedetto Levi, “is to treat Iliad as a mobile virtual network operator, despite the five billion euros invested in building a proprietary network of around 20,000 base stations. The course of action taken sets a precedent that penalises anyone wishing to make new investments in infrastructure and runs counter to Italian and European legislation.”
Today, Agcom, whilst announcing its policy on the renewal of frequencies in return for investment and without further payments, also emphasised that “with a view to promoting competition, it is envisaged that for

"mobile network operators (Tim, Fastweb+Vodafone and Wind Tre, ed.) for which spectrum has been allocated are required to provide access services to the fourth mobile network operator (Iliad, ed.) and to service providers, including mobile virtual network operators".
