There are 1.654 million votes in the European elections that did not produce a single elected person. This is the sum of the preferences accorded to the two parties of the former twins and long-time duellists Matteo Renzi and Carlo Calenda : they look to the same centrist electorate with their two formations - Action (778.858 votes) and Italia Viva (875,570 under the banner United States of Europe) - but at last weekend's vote they came up separate, both remaining dry-mouthed. A rout.
A "constituent phase"
.The centrist leaders are addressed by Alessandro Tommasi , founder of the political platform for dialogue Nos , holder of 15,353 preferences collected in the North-West as a candidate for Action and 'runner-up' behind Calenda. But, like the former minister, he ended up on the 'non-elected' list. For Tommasi we need 'a constituent phase' that is 'open, contestable, transparent and aimed at giving representation to the Lib Dem and popular community. No more discussions that look in the rear-view mirror in search of the culprit of the end of the Third Pole. No more divisions that ruin hundreds of thousands of votes and waste talent'.
Tommasi, born in 1985, co-founder in 2020 of the media company Will Media (acquired by Chora Media) and in the past with roles at Airbnb and CattaneoZanetto&Co, launches an appointment in September for a "large open event, without vetoes, participated, rich and transversal, inviting all those who share this idea of concrete change to take part in it". Renzi and Calenda are at the top of the guest list: 'Leadership means putting oneself at the service, enabling the success of communities, not protecting or following personalisms'.
"Stop following personalism"
.For himself and for his 'media-party' Nos, Tommasi carves out the role of 'activator of new paths that look outside the parties' of 'facilitator': 'I do this,' he emphasises, 'without ambitions for roles or seats. We are just tools towards a new politics that is truly for everyone and not for the few'. And with a joke he concludes: 'When you hit rock bottom, you have to stop digging and start rising'. Appointment in September for a 'political party' open to all those who dream of a new container of the centre.
