The Colosseum, with its archaeological park, is increasingly a phenomenon of crowds of visitors from Italy and abroad. With its almost 15 million visitors (14,733,395) and over 100 million euro in takings (101,902,884.5) it remains the gold medal of the most visited Italian sites and museums in 2024. The record year, according to Sistan (the MiC's statistics service) data published on the Ministry of Culture website: well over 60 million visitors and (+5.3%) and almost 400 million euros in takings (382,004,344).
The 'surprise' Pantheon
.On the podium, in second place, are the Uffizi, which in 2024 welcomed more than 5 million visitors (5,294,968) and achieved almost EUR 62 million (61,943,626) in revenue. The bronze medal goes to Pompeii, whose archaeological park attracted over 4 million visitors (4,267,233), bringing in over 55 million euro (55,291,542) in ticket sales. At the bottom of the ranking are the Palazzo Ducale in Mantua (269,698 visitors / €1,797,604), the Castello Scaligero (262,095 / €1,125,880) and the Terme di Caracalla (258,687/1,039,119). A special note for the Pantheon, which, in the first year in which it has been paid for all twelve months, comes in the ranking just below the podium, in fourth place, with 4,086,947 admissions and 14,712,752 euro of revenue.
Uffizi, working for world's best museum complex
"The incessant work that we are carrying out with the refurbishment and expansion of the spaces in the Gallery of Paintings and Statues and at Palazzo Pitti, the redevelopment of the Boboli Gardens, the reopening of the Vasari Corridor and also an increase in the levels of decorum in all the museum spaces is beginning to bear fruit: full steam ahead to make the Galleries even more the best museum complex in the world". This is how Uffizi Director Simone Verde commented on the second place of the Galleries on the podium of the ranking of the results obtained by the great state-owned museums and cultural heritage in 2024 (behind the Colosseum and ahead of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii), published today on the MiC website.
Pompeii, 17 May evening openings at sites
Evening openings at the sites of Greater Pompeii on 17 May on the occasion of Museum Night. The site of Oplontis with the Villa of Poppea, the Villas of San Marco and Arianna and the Libero D'Orsi Archaeological Museum in Castellammare di Stabia, the Villa Regina with Antiquarium in Boscoreale and Pompeii will be open from 8.00 pm to 11.00 pm with last admission at 10.00 pm at a cost of €1 (reductions and free admission as per regulations). In Pompeii the visit will be a twofold one, with a route that includes access to some of the houses on the eastern side of the ancient city and the Palestra Grande, and on the other side to the Villa dei Misteri, from where it will then be possible to reach the Boscoreale site by shuttle bus. The cost is 1 euro for each itinerary (online booking recommended).
