The Orchestra and Chorus of S. Cecilia inaugurate their season with the new music director, Daniel Harding, who succeeds the almost 20-year-long direction of Antonio Pappano, now conducting the London Symphony Orchestra. Harding chooses an opera for his debut (which he presents in concert form, given the characteristics of the stage): it is 'Tosca', which Puccini set in Rome. A new cycle of Wagner's Tetralogy kicks off at La Scala, a decade after the one directed by Barenboim. In 2026, it will be possible to see a close performance of the entire cycle (four operas): in one week, as Wagner wanted. In Naples, the art of Peppino Di Capri is celebrated: among the many famous songs, the splendid 'Per un attimo', to the notes of which they dance on the beach in Dino Risi's 'Sorpasso', comes to mind.
On 21-24-26 at the Auditorium Parco della Musica S. Cecilia inauguration of the S. Cecilia Orchestra Season, with its new Music Director Daniel Harding. Puccini's opera 'Tosca' will be performed in concert form. In the company will be Eleonora Buratto, who recently made her debut in the role of Tosca at the Staatsoper in Munich, the American Jonathan Tetelman (Cavaradossi), and the French baritone Ludovic Tézier (Scarpia).
Slightly deferred on Rai5 on 21 at 21.15, as well as live on Radio3 at 20.30.
On stage for six performances from 28 October to 10 November is 'The Rhine Gold', the first of the new production of 'The Ring of the Nibelung', which will continue in 2025 with 'La Walkiria' (5 to 23 February) and 'Siegfried' (6 to 21 June) and in 2026 with 'The Twilight of the Gods', followed by two complete cycles. On the podium are Simone Young (28 and 31 October, 3 November) and Alexander Soddy (5, 7 and 10 November). The cast includes baritone Michael Volle, who will be Wotan in the entire cycle. New staging, directed by David McVicar, who has already staged 'The Ring' in the past with a successful production at the Opéra National du Rhin.
The last Tetralogy at La Scala was the one conducted by Barenboim between 2010 and 2013, directed by Guy Cassiers. It was since the version conducted by Cluytens in 1963 that the Four Days had not been performed consecutively in the same season - as will also be the case in 2026 with two complete cycles.
