Almost 11% of national GDP comes from tourism

Our country has shown resilience in consolidating its position among the most sought-after destinations in the world: it is the fourth most popular destination in Europe, a result that testifies to its vast and diversified offer, from wellness to luxury tourism, from culture to gastronomy. According to Wttc data, tourism's contribution to GDP and employment will also grow. The former will be 237.4 billion in 2025 (10.8% of GDP) against 228.5 billion in 2024 (10.5%). According to the report, in fact, in ten years' time the contribution to GDP will rise to 282.6 billion (12.2% of GDP), there will be 3.7 million employed, and visitors will spend 220.7 billion (78.2 international and 142.5 domestic).

Santanché: Global summit opportunity to increase the country's competitiveness

"We have brought back to Europe, after six years, the world's largest event on tourism: the Wttc Global Summit, which sees the participation of the sector's main international leaders, is an important moment for the sector and for Italy, and it is an indication of how much we have regained ground and are once again protagonists on the global scene," said Tourism Minister Daniela Santanchè at the presentation of the 25th Wttc Global Summit. She added: "More than 1,000 people will attend, there are already 18 ministers coming from all over the world, but what is important is that all the players from the entire tourism chain will be there. Which means investment and a great showcase for promotion. Especially in a year that is already so stimulating for Italian tourism, with the Jubilee underway and the record figures we are recording, the summit' represents 'a unique opportunity to network and create new synergies between operators, associations and institutions, developing the product, the offer and the potential of our tourism ecosystem. And, ultimately, to be more and more competitive'.

Gualtieri: let's focus on quality tourism

The Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, at the opening of the press conference presenting the Global Summit, remarked that the event will be "the largest global event on tourism", a sector that "is experiencing a season of strong growth, but also a positive transformation so that it is a more modern industry, more attentive to sustainability, innovative and capable of integrating tourist flows with the real experience of our extraordinary places. We are trying to focus on quality'.
