Towards 200 million supercar rental turnover in Europe

Double-digit growth for the luxury car rental business driving the offer of a range of value-added services

Among the Tuscan hills in a gritty spider or visiting the historic centres of Salento driving a supercar. This is the combination of the charm offered by the Belpaese and the desire to get behind the wheel of a sports berlinetta or a vintage car. Experiences that are appreciated and sought after by foreign visitors, fuelling the high-end tourism business in which dream car hire is grafted. A high-end market worth 169 million in EU countries in 2023, with 192 active companies and a fleet of almost 3,500 cars, of which a thousand are available in Italy, generating 45 million in revenues for 40 specialised companies. Double-digit growth (+15%) is expected for 2024, which should close with a turnover of 195 million, while in 2030 it should reach 714 million. In addition to the rental of super sports cars, the offer is supplemented by premium service packages such as delivery and return of the car wherever one wishes, visits to historic residences, tailor-made tours to discover handicrafts and food and wine, customers from Northern Europe appreciate those from Central Italy, but also sporty driving experiences at racetracks, helicopter and yacht tours as well as the indispensable luggage transfer service. There are no limits and everything is done to meet the demands of this particular clientele that spares no expense for unique experiences.

"High-end car hire plays a key role in the Italian and international tourism offer and acts as an element capable of characterising and enriching the entire travel experience," recalls Pierluigi Galassetti, co-founder with Saverio Castellaneta of Driverso, a platform specialising in high-end car hire. This mobility proposal is appreciated by both domestic and international visitors and fits into a context in which customers seek not only comfort and exclusivity, but demand immersive and customised experiences in every detail of their stay, from the cuisine to the accommodation, right up to the car journeys, which complete the range of services. And there is a further propulsive thrust deriving from the novelty of the service that is still little known to most potential customers'. According to this projection, Galassetti expects this particular market segment to grow at a rate of over 20% per year for the next 3-5 years. The average duration of a contract is 5.4 days for more than 313 thousand days in total, with average revenue on a single vehicle of 49 thousand euros.

The offer ranges from the 'usual' supercars such as Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini to maxi SUVs up to Bentley and Lotus as well as vans and the maxi sedans Mercedes, Audi, Bmw and Tesla.
