Toyota Aygo X becomes full hybrid and does so by sharing engine and battery with the Yaris. All this without sacrificing extremely compact dimensions, thanks to a series of technical modifications that have made it possible to find space for the 100% hybrid powertrain despite the 20 centimetres difference between the two cars. The introduction of the full hybrid version also updates the styling of the Toyota Aygo X, especially at the front, and adds the GR version with improved driving dynamics. Designed and produced in Europe at the Kolin plant in the Czech Republic, the Toyota Aygo X is the first full hybrid in segment A.
What are the dimensions of the Toyota Aygo X hybrid?
The dimensions of the Toyota Aygo X hybrid confirm its positioning in the city-car segment, with a length of 3,776 mm, a width of 1,740 mm and a height of 1,525 mm. On board, the cabin for four people is updated with the introduction of a new 10.5-inch touchscreen for the higher trim or a 9-inch screen. In addition to Apple CarPlay connectivity, Android Auto wireless connectivity arrives on the Toyota Aygo X. Additional connectivity is provided by two standard Usb-C connectors, plus an optional wireless charging pad, which allows easy charging of mobile devices. Chapter cargo capacity, travelling with 4 people you can count on 231 litres.
What the Toyota Aygo X hybrid looks like
Underpinning the Aygo X is Toyota's Global New Architecture (TNGA) GA-B platform, introduced with the previous model in 2022 and now modified for the new generation. Although the GA-B platform is the same one used on the Yaris, the new Aygo X features a revised rear section. To accommodate the 1.5-litre hybrid engine, the front overhang has been lengthened by 76 mm while preserving the Aygo X's proportions. This new architecture also created the opportunity to renew the aesthetics of the front end in line with the new stylistic direction of models destined for Europe. For the first time in a Toyota, the two battery cell stacks are positioned next to each other across the width of the floor in a longitudinal layout under the rear seats. In addition to the position of the hybrid battery, its cooling system also features a new layout. The cooling fan, which is usually located directly next to the battery, is now positioned under the rear seat. This new solution not only optimises space in the cabin, but also creates two air flows to the battery that provide better cooling. The integration of the electrified powertrain also required a new wiring system, which was implemented with completely new electronics, including new electronic control units, with no components carried over from the previous generation. In addition to improving the performance and integration of the hybrid system, this step also allowed the introduction of a 7-inch driver screen within the instrumentation. In addition, changes to the assembly made it possible to completely replace the air conditioning system with an improved version. This allowed the introduction of bi-zone climate control in the front seats on the upper trim levels.
What is the fuel consumption of the Toyota Aygo X hybrid?
Tested during a first contact in Berlin, the Toyota Aygo X full hybrid showed extremely low fuel consumption with an average of 3.5 litres per 100 kilometres, a figure even better than the 3.7 l/100 homologated Wltp. On the road we appreciate the combination of the TNGA platform, dedicated trim on the GR version and 116 horsepower (+44 hp compared to the current Aygo X) that ensure a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in just 9.2 seconds and at the same time a declared speed of 130 km/h in electric mode. The CVT gearbox, now free of the typical scooter effect, is also promoted.
How much does the Aygo X hybrid cost?
But how much does the Aygo X hybrid cost? For now, prices are not yet defined, but the Toyota Aygo X full hybrid could arrive at a price of around 20,000 euros.
