The Dutch bank Ing raises the expense reimbursement for interns to €1,500 net per month, bringing the level above the national average of just over a third and double that of Milan, the city where it peaks.
"By raising the expense reimbursement for interns to EUR 1,500 net, the first bank in Italy, we want to give the signal that the time has come to properly recognise the commitment and dedication of the university years and help retain talent in Italy," explains Costanza Ramorino, Head of HR at ING Italia. This initiative concerns in particular the very young, but we are also working to enhance our people on other fronts: gender equality, senior talent, addressing an increasingly central issue such as longevity, and finally disability, essential areas in the People Strategy, where we know we can do more and better".
The decision further enhances Ing's people strategy, which has recently been certified as a Great place to work, and is part of the bank's growth plans in our country, where salary is one of the most critical factors for new graduates.
Research by Deloitte, carried out in 2024, shows that in Italy the cost of living is the first concern for almost a third of the GenZ and for 43% of Millennials.
The other side of the coin shows that 71% of Italian boys and 62% of Italian girls aged between 18 and 35 still live at home with their parents and dependent on them, while the most daring and ambitious have chosen to go abroad.
