Working out in a hotel: the best fitness clubs around the world
Those who travel a lot for business and pleasure cannot interrupt their sports activities. Thus, the best hotels in the world equip themselves to accommodate super-professional gyms.

Hotel gyms do not always live up to expectations, amidst dated and worn-out machines. For years, the hospitality industry did not invest too much in them because, unlike spas and restaurants, "the gym does not usually bring in extra revenue," admits Michael Borges, general manager of the Siro One Za'abeel in Dubai. Now, however, more and more luxury hotels are changing course, spurred on by customer interest. "Who like to maintain the same workout routine as when they're at home," explains Emily Oberg, founder of the clothing brand Sporty & Rich, who works out six times a week and cites the Ritz Club in Paris (for the pool) and Il San Pietro in Positano (for the outdoor cardio machines, tennis courts and spectacular views) as premium cases: "If the space is also beautiful, the motivation grows."
First and foremost, the lighting "has to make you look and feel good while exercising," explains interior designer Kelly Wearstler. "The acoustics have to amplify without being distracting, the materials have to be functional, yet refined". Because, as Christopher Norton, CEO of Equinox Hotels, says, "the definition of luxury has changed, and young people don't want formal environments", but beautiful spaces with high-performance equipment.
