New step in the international development of the Ferrovie dello Stato group. Trenitalia France has signed a 35-year lease agreement with Sncf Réseau for a railway area located in Maisons-Alfort Pompadour, in the Île-de-France region, where the future maintenance centre dedicated to high-speed trains will be built.
The project envisages a total investment of around EUR 80 million and the commissioning of the facility by the end of 2029. The new infrastructure will allow Trenitalia France to strengthen the operational management of its fleet, improving the efficiency of its maintenance activities and supporting the development of the railway offer in the French market. The maintenance centre will also support the future Frecciarossa high-speed services between Paris and London through the Eurotunnel (Channel Tunnel).
The initiative is part of the international growth strategy envisaged in Ferrovie dello Stato's business plan, which aims to strengthen its presence on the main European high-speed corridors and develop new competitive and sustainable rail links between the continent's main cities.
The centre will be designed to guarantee round-the-clock operations and will comprise three tracks equipped for the simultaneous maintenance of three trainsets, as well as facilities for washing, cleaning and train storage. When fully operational, the facility will be structured to accommodate up to 25 trainsets. The construction of the new site also represents a strategic element for the development of the Group's international activities.
"With this investment we strengthen the industrial presence of the FS group in France and support the development of European rail mobility," says Stefano Antonio Donnarumma, managing director of FS. "The new maintenance centre represents a strategic infrastructure to accompany the growth of Trenitalia's activities in the country and to support the future high-speed connections between Paris and London, helping to make the train increasingly the protagonist of sustainable mobility in Europe".
