In Val di Sole, the number of sightings of bears in built-up areas is on the rise, and this is why the municipality of Malè is calling for urgent action 'to avoid painful and dramatic events in the future', such as the death last year of 23-year-old runner Andrea Papi, who was mauled to death by a bear in the woods of the Val di Sole, Trentino.

"Citizens are calling for urgent action to resolve the situation; first of all, the civil protection operators must be immediately made safe, at least equipping them with anti-bear spray in order to be able to act safely," asks the Malè municipal council after yet another sighting of a bear in the town centre last night. The administration appeals 'to all the institutions in a position to act (European Union, State and Province), in order to avoid painful and dramatic events in the future'.
