20 May with Nobel Prize winner Pissarides (3pm Social Theatre)
Today the start. First day with Nobel Prize winner Pissarides, Minister Salvini, entrepreneurs and economists. Fuori Festival events, Economies of the Territories and Meetings with the Author are on the programme
The 2026 edition of the Festival of Economics is underway. The event, in the formula conceived in 2022 by the Il Sole 24 ORE Group together with Trentino Marketing on behalf of the Autonomous Province of Trento and with the contribution of the Municipality of Trento and the University of Trento, will colour the city orange from 20 May until Sunday 24 May. The extraordinary success of the previous editions has in fact prompted the organisers to extend to five days the event that has seen the "squirrel people" grow in an extraordinary way, reaching over 140,000 presences in four years.
This year's theme, 'From market to new powers. The hopes of young people" will see over 700 speakers on the city's stages: 5 Nobel Prize winners, 18 ministers, 118 protagonists of the academic world, 35 national and international economists, 87 representatives of national and European institutions, over 90 managers and entrepreneurs. Over five days more than 300 events with the initiatives "Fuori Festival", "Economie dei Territori", "Incontri con l'Autore".
The five days in Trento will become fundamental for anyone who wants to understand where the world and the economy are going today, as captured by the theme of the 2026 edition that will be the leitmotif of the entire Festival: 'From the market to new powers. The hopes of young people'.
A topic of pressing topicality, chosen by the event's Advisory Board, chaired by Sole 24 Ore editor-in-chief and chairman of the Scientific Committee Fabio Tamburini and comprising Elena Beccalli, Marco Fortis, Paolo Magri, Emma Marcegaglia, Giulio Sapelli and Giulio Tremonti.
It therefore starts today, with a packed programme of events:among many others, the speech by Christopher Pissarides, 2010 Nobel Prize winner for economics, in the panel entitled 'Workforce skills in demand in the age of AI /Demand for labour and skills in the age of artificial intelligence' at 3 p.m. at the Teatro Sociale.
