The first week of the Trevi Fountain pay-as-you-go was marked by bad Roman weather. Between Monday 2 February and Sunday 8 February, it rained every day, especially at the weekend. And yet, the attendance figures - also net of the low season - rewarded the 'political choice made' by the Campidoglio according to culture councillor Massimiliano Smeriglio.
In particular, he points out, those at weekends, where the hours in whichtourists have to pay the two-euro ticket is extended from 9am to 10pm (during the week it is from 11.30am to 10pm).
On Saturday and Sunday, in total, there were more than fifteen thousand admissions. The figure, it should be specified, also includes the categories exempt from payment, i.e. residents of Rome and the Metropolitan City, people with disabilities and accompanying persons, students, children under the age of 6 and tourist guides.
On Saturday, 7 February, the total attendance was 6,709 despite the civil protection weather alert throughout the day, which, in fact, granted little respite from the rain.
On Sunday 8 February, when the weather was cloudy but less rainy, admissions increased to 8,684.
