A hat-trick for Quadarella, Iapichino reigns supreme, men’s 4x400m record: golds in swimming and athletics

Quadarella and Iapichino are the queens of Europe. But the highlight comes from the Italian men’s 4x400m relay team, which dominated on British soil and secured the top spot in the European Championships medal table for Italia.

Italia on top of Europe. The Roman swimmer completed her hat-trick with gold in the 400-metre freestyle, following victories in the 800 and 1,500 metres. The Tuscan long jumper secured her first European outdoor title following her indoor victory in 2025: a jump of 7 metres, with five athletes separated by just 6 centimetres.
Another four silver medals from the pool. By one hundredth of a second for Pilato in the 50m breaststroke and Ceccon in the 50m backstroke, and by one tenth of a second for the women’s 4x100m medley relay (Curtis, Pilato, Gastaldi, Menicucci) and men’s 4x100m medley relay (Ceccon, Martinenghi, Razzetti, D’Ambrosio).
Also in athletics, the women’s 4x400m relay team (Bonora, Polinari, Mangione and Coiro) took bronze to round off the day. Earlier in the morning, Riva and the women’s team (Lonedo, Yaremchuk, Epis) won silver in the marathon.
