More and more internationalisation for Troyer, a South Tyrolean SME specialising in the design and production of hydroelectric plants founded in the last century. It was in 1934 when Valentin Troyer, after completing his apprenticeship with Josef Leitner in Sterzing, set up a small family-run electromechanical workshop with just five employees.

Founded as a workshop for repairing electric motors and small turbine systems, the company soon specialised in the production of electromechanical components for hydroelectric plants. Thanks to the innovative strength and commitment of its founders and successors, the company has developed into one of the leading suppliers in the hydropower sector.

The 1980s marked a turning point, when private power plant operators were authorised by law to feed electricity into the public grid. This allowed the South Tyrolean company to conquer a fast-growing market. Over the years, the company expanded and built several production centres between 2001 and 2016. It was in 2023 when the company was acquired by the Hti Group, a deal that accentuated its position as a leading supplier of hydropower systems with 30 million in revenue, international orders and 120 employees worldwide.

The key markets are northern Italy, where plants are being built on the Brembo river, Austria and Switzerland, while those abroad are Nepal, Brazil, Norway and Georgia, but the mind and heart of production remain in Sterzing. In its history, the company has supplied 610 plants, 700 hydroelectric turbine groups for a total power of 1.1 million kW.

The latest innovations developed range from exploiting the potential of hydropower also in the light of new technological innovations to automation and smart grid technologies, while in the field of maintenance, the focus is on predictive maintenance in power plants.
