Army: Trump appoints Adam Telle as the new acting secretary
Following Driscoll’s resignation, ‘The Donald’ is leaning towards a former classmate of JD Vance
The US President Donald Trump has announced the appointment of a new ‘acting’ Secretary of the Army, shortly after the resignation of Dan Driscoll, the branch’s highest-ranking civilian official, following serious disagreements with the Pentagon’s leadership, in particular with Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth.
“I am pleased to announce that Adam Telle, the current Under-Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, will take up the post of Acting Secretary of the Army with immediate effect,” he wrote in a post on Truth Social. “He is a great patriot, held in high regard by everyone,” he added. Telle was sworn in as Under-Secretary in August 2025, following his confirmation by the US Senate; he has spent much of his career working as a staff member on Capitol Hill.
Driscoll’s resignation marks the latest departure of a senior US military official under the Trump administration. A former law school classmate of Vice-President JD Vance, Driscoll is said to have benefited from their friendship within the administration, but he came into conflict with Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth.
