Trump attacks Jerome Powell: he is a fool

So on Truth, US President Donald Trump returns to attack Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell who, despite his insistence, has kept rates unchanged, fearing the risk of rising inflation in the uncertainty caused by the duties.

Trump's comments once again strike a blow at the Fed's independence, a move that could shake markets already reeling from its ever-changing rate plans.

The president has repeatedly sent mixed signals about the possibility of firing Powell. Last month, Trump openly considered firing Powell and his top economic adviser said the administration was considering whether he had the power to do so, only to be told later by the president that he had no intention of doing so.

"Why would I do that? I could replace that person in a little while," Trump said in an interview aired Sunday on NBC's Meet the Press, when asked if he would seek to remove Powell before the end of his term as president in 2026.

Trump is irritated by the Fed's choices, regularly calls for lower rates and accuses the central bank of not listening to his demands for political reasons.
