Trump calls for imprisonment of Chicago mayor and Illinois governor
President Trump accuses the mayor and governor of failing to protect federal immigration agents.
Today, President Donald Trump called for the imprisonment of Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, accusing the two Democrats of failing to protect federal immigration officers (United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement) without providing any evidencea.
Trump's comments, posted on his social media platform, come as the Republican president ordered National Guard troops to travel to Chicago, the nation's third largest city, despite objections from local and state authorities.
"The mayor of Chicago should be in jail for not protecting ICE agents! Governor Pritzker, too!" Trump wrote, referring to US. immigration and law enforcement personnel.
Representatives of Johnson and Pritzker could not immediately be reached for comment, writes the Reuters news agency.
