Trump does not rule out the government taking a stake in OpenAI and Anthropic: following Intel’s example
With Intel, ‘we’ve made something like 60 or 70 billion dollars’
Donald Trump has not ruled out the government taking a stake in OpenAI and Anthropic, the two leading US artificial intelligence giants, following the example set by Intel.
In an interview with *Time*, the full transcript of which has been published, the US President said, “I might, perhaps I might do that. I have many agreements of this sort; I do it.”
Consequently, a stake held by the US government in the share capital of OpenAI and Anthropic, modelled on the 10 per cent stake in Intel that the chip manufacturer has decided to sell to Washington.
Trump then added: “The deal with Intel. I did it for the United States,” explained the US President. With Intel, “we’ve made something like 60 or 70 billion dollars. Intel is pretty much the hottest stock around. Right at the top.”
